The most important thing that you can decorate your windows with are valances. These are basically just fabric that is hang on the top part of your window to usually cover up the window a little, and hide the mechanism of the curtains, and the window blinds when they are pulled up. This will make a more tidy appearance, but also a more classy look to your home decoration. Well designed valances can really make your windows look more interesting and pull even more curiosity towards your window treatments.
One trick that you can use to make your windows look even more intriguing is to use curtains that are made out of a fabric that does not have any pattern to it. This means using a plain color, and even a slightly see through material, and then combine it with window valances that have stripes or one really strong pattern. This will not make your window treatments look messy, because of the simplicity of the curtains, and at the same time it is not going to pull too much attention to the valances because they are still up there and not in plain sight. If you would use some really powerful patterns in your windows, it would have to be very carefully picked out for it not to stand out too much. Another thing that you should use when you are trying to design your valances is to use a tab top valance. This is a great trick to do when you don't want to put curtains - especially for small windows and when you have good looking blinds that you don't want to hide. This is used quite a lot in modern design rooms and it is working great. You can use all kinds of fabric for this and it is not going to mix up with your curtains if you don't have them. The tab top alone makes a great appearance and with a little tought you can make your window valances the centerpiece of your home.
